How did you all first learn about the original Numberwang? Netflix?

Some of us aren't American! (Or young)

In the UK we watched it on the Beeb when it was aired.

I knew the Mitchell and Webb duo from _The Peep Show_ and one day (long before the pandemic) I saw a comment on Slashdot about working from home linking to this sketch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=co_DNpTMKXk

Then I watched that show and learned about Numberwang.

Some Mitchell and Webb sketches are posted on youtube.

I was forced to watch their atrocious sketch show while waiting in someone's house before we departed for the local pub.

Aren't Helping isn't amazing but Look is generally very solid

What type of work was it? Customer service/tech support? Software development?

Corporate law.

Any thoughts on the "Framework Laptop 13 Pro"?

Doesn't meet the same silent or single core perf requirements. probably the closest out there though.

Did you buy it or show them a better way of doing it?

Man, you don't want to know. But I guess I've answered you anyway.

What are some of your favorite tools or services that you adopted in the past few years?

Do you have any active sites or social media with your recommendations?

(I never publish my recommendations because they seem to complicated for people. Like using 30 GB plan/$10/monthly from T-Mobile for data and then using Tello for $10 plan for voice/text. This would require a 2 esim/sim card phone. I am currently using a Moto G Power 2024 phone from eBay $90/new, which was better than the $200 slightly used Pixel 6a from Swappa. Most people would just save the hassle, get a Galaxy phone with a phone contract.)

Nothing active anymore, all converted to static sites.

If you’re on page 2 of the results, you effectively don’t exist so I stopped bothering/benefiting from display ads.

Coincidentally, I did try to get deeper into the cellular service side (it’s another high margin and high customer value segment), but I did better on the finance side.

Are these Chrome extensions? How did you learn to write them?

I use the tampermonkey extension (formerly greasemonkey). AI is fairly good for writing scripts.

they are just js scripts and a manifest for permissions. it's like game-mod scripting but for the web. ask any llm and they'll guide you through

Which models and tools do you use to write and validate code?

Other than the price increases, any issues with Hetzner? Any alternatives you would recommend?

Pricing was the "selling" point. People chose Hetzner for their affordable prices compared to anybody else.

But when Hetzner is priced like everyone else, it makes it harder to pick them over the giant AWS, GCP, Digital Ocean etc.

AWS does not give "bare metal" and the equivalent is still way more expensive. However Hetzner was much preferrable to let's say OVH who also "deals" bare metal but not anymore. So yes Hetzner has lost what I consider was their only advantage.

AWS, GCP are still more expensive because they are just that greedy.

digitalocean has better pricing now, im actually migrating stuff right now, gcp also but only slightly

I just gave up on reading respectable news outlet like NY Times. I decided to just get it from "fringe" Youtube channels: Danny Haiphong, Dialogue Works with Nima, The Jimmy Dore Show. Recently, former CIA analyst, Larry Johnson, worked with Pepe Escobar and Zulfiqar Ali to vet a source saying Iran has 1 or 2 nuclear weapons. Let's see how long it will take the NY Times to avoid/deny/confirm that story.

Going all-in on fringe YouTube channels is not a good strategy if you want to be informed. Sounds like you are in the pipeline. Next stop: Ivermectin shampoo.

Youtubers are using something as sources. Someone still has to do the journalism. Not sure YouTubers can replace that.

Balancing your news consumption among right and left fringe sources isn't a great way to find the truth "in the middle".
