the issue most of you seem to not realize is that when you put these models in a loop, you are able to do more and more insane and cool things.

have you guys actually designed, built, and deployed agentic workflows?

it is actually quite hard, requires tons of time spent on evals and testing to ensure accuracy, but when it starts to work it is mind blowing.

there is no going back.

listening to people yap about AI when they have only surface level or one dimensional exposure to LLMs and "AI", but have not actually put innovations to work IN PRACTICE.. is a waste of time

the ai slop aesthetic is off putting

As noted elsewhere, the website was made with the assistance of AI. I designed it myself in Canva, used AI to generate the HTML/CSS, but I designed it myself. The app itself is 100% hand-coded by me, though if you consider some of the AI-suggested autocomplete to be AI slop, maybe that's fair.

This app is designed to make the world a marginally better place, so maybe instead of shitting on someone's hard work, providing constructive feedback would be more in the spirit of collaboration and positivity. Have a nice day. :)

i gave you feedback. you’re the one taking it personally.

never said you should not do it or whatever.

You're rude

i mean do you want the honest answer? i’m not a white american guy so i can say it.

importing hordes of foreign tech workers or hiring asians broadly whose culture is very much the opposite of “don’t tread on me” led to much of this.

might not be comfortable to say but most of our tech companies are led by people who aren’t “Americana” (cultural)

and broadly speaking, there are very few people like me (i’m asian) that value the American way of independence at all cost and most are just strivers and consumerist

so the goal for most of them is to make 300k base and 300k stock per year. fuck the consequences.

the days of making tech for the love of the game are long gone.

Shame that people are down voting you, there's an uncomfortable truth to it I don't think people want to face.

Culture is defined by people not borders- simply crossing an arbitrary line doesn't change someone's beliefs and values.

The immigration boom especially on the West coast has vastly diluted assimilation into American culture- coming from an immigrant, who married into another family of immigrants- too many people move here and stick to their own cultural enclave, building a version of their home country in miniature instead of trying to integrate.

the problem isn't the workers. plenty of "white american guys" with a "don't tread on me" culture share this goal. scapegoating "hordes of foreign tech workers or hiring asians broadly" ignores that the SV culture rewards this.

> so the goal for most of them is to make 300k base and 300k stock per year. fuck the consequences.

"What could be more American than that?" — Wadsworth, Clue (1985)

What could be more American than a foreign born mafia engaging in human trafficking?

someone has to turn the gears

The fascinating part is that fuck the consequences was until more recently kinda penalized, but advent of tech overlords changed that calculus ( they even have their own saying to capture that 0.

yes and it wasn’t always that way. most of these trends of the “god like” founder are maybe from the past 30 years.

and it reeks of extractive personalities that took over

in an post agi world with rsi none of this will be necessary.

wasted effort.

i’ll use the unlimited resources to not build software and do something else.

you gave me unlimited resources.

what are you gonna do about it?

if you can do the worst “bad” thing possible, you can also do the best “good” thing possible

and then what?

was the needle move at all?

> if you can do the worst “bad” thing possible, you can also do the best “good” thing possible

You say this like it's a truism, but I don't think it is. The bad things may be categorically easier than the good things. It's easier to destabilize a delicate system than to stabilize it. It's easier to break something than to fix it.

Suppose it matters what order you do it in.

The best good thing possible for humans who are all suffering from an extremely painful, incurable disease might just be ending that misery.

The worst bad thing possible in a perfect utopia might be a minor inconvenience comparatively.

you don’t get it he is quirky

so the issue is people then?

Yes, in the same way that "people" are the problem with gun violence. But that's an empty statement usually used to distract from the fact that we rightfully make laws about how guns can be used.

i'd be happy moving on from gaming as "the" entertainment option on computers, in favor of something more entertaining

like can we get some new more interesting entertainment? maybe that's just me but all games look and feel the same now or worse dumbed down sometimes where even puzzles in the game have like basic or grindy aspect to them ...

That really depends on the kind of games you play. There are plenty of 0 hand holding games which are respecting your intelligence and also challenging enough

i buy used everything these days unless i have a business need when it comes to electronics.

i still use m1 max 32gb which i got last year. i got it for $899. it replaced a intel mbp which had served me well for 5 years.

i use an iphone 15.

idk i mean i have money so im not broke or poor.

but you can bet your ass even if i had more, like $100 billion or whatever, i am STILL NOT going to drop $2k on something if its not going to make a meaningfully life changing different in my life.

it’s just a phone made for doing the Least Common Denominator type shit. like calling and texting or doom scrolling a bit

consumerism is for losers. no shame in that.

i rather just collect the money via my indirect investments including in apple if others want to blow their money tho!

i can spend it on something actually unique and interesting :) like high end audiophile earbuds which sound amazing but are brittle and have issues. so i’ll buy 2-3 pairs of those while one of them is under repair :)
