As I look around my little Bay Area town, and especially my Facebook and Instashrams, I am struck by how fortunate we all are.

We do live and 'like' in our own snow globe of good tidings ~where everyone is warm, everyone is well fed, and the love of friends and family flows as easily as the wine. So today, my wish and message of hope, is for all of us to pause. ... While we celebrate, let's pause to reflect, to consider and to act. Let's all extend an extra hand this Christmas, Hanukkah and into the New Year.

Whether it's a hand, a dollar, an ear or a smile, what you are truly giving is hope~ a star in the east to follow. Wishing you and yours every happiness and good fortune. Peace and peace of mind and God's blessing..

Underlying driver here is that users are migrating en masse to Facebook now for their professional updates and post streams. Twitter is most impacted, but LinkedIn too. That's why TWTR selling, LNKD sold. The market for users attention, not just the market for their stocks is moving against them. FB is like the wandering Jupiter of our early solar system- the 'grand tack' is sweeping up the smaller bodies in the solar system. Good to be Jupiter..

I just use (or avoid using) facebook for totally different reasons than I use twitter.

On twitter I mostly communicate with people I've never met and have little association with apart from shared interests. It's a great way of meeting new people.

Facebook is for communicating with people I already know, many of who are actively searching for alternatives but because "everybody uses it" are locked in.

Interestingly, I've avoided using Facebook as much as possible. I keep the profile alive because my siblings expect me to have one and tag me in stupid things I don't allow to actually show up on my wall. I actually log in maybe once every six months because there's nothing to see there, just re-shares and tired memes. Twitter on the other hand I use pretty much daily.

Shame is really hard to assign and even more difficult to self apply. So while society (let alone our small, sometimes dark programming/tech back lot) is a long way from where we should be, each of us does have a responsibility to more than our own self-entertainment. Trolls are not unique to HN and blogs, they exist in real life too - they're called bullies. And with regards to this story, there's not really a 'both sides' here. There are females and males. And of the males, there are men and boys. Deep down and up close in your own personal mirror, you know which one you are. Instead, why not be awesome and redirect negative, petty energy and do something productive. Change the World, it's clearly needed

At a very early stage but well-funded startup, where everyone is relatively equal in age, capability or experience, I think the idea of everyone making the same 'monthly nut' money, like $100K per annum could be appealing. In the Bay Area, I actually think $100K after taxes/medical/401K deductions would be reasonable, high side. Cash/Stock bonuses could then be variable based on contribution. Equality, transparency and trust would be key

Really, really smart hire by @dickc. and @adambain knows this so it's no threat to his juggernaut advertising business- commerce and content could very end up two equal legs in a three-legged awesome @biz stool (sorry for the twitter cc pun there). more so than even FB, @twitter's just a few years younger and maybe the little bro that grows up taller

I not only illustrates the concept of the false negative (which is presumably as likely as the false positive)- it also showcases that disciplines and best practices, even policies hr, finance, sales ops and yes, even product are not absolute. every case is unique and can be quantum- not binary right or wrong, but every infinity in between

By the way, in hiring you typically are ok with a reasonable number of false negatives, but you really want to eliminate false positives - so a strict filter is actually appropriate.

For example, if you're interviewing candidates with "true objective fit optimalities" of 31%, 52%, 84%, 91%, 94%, 96% - then your process must ensure that there is no way that the bad candidates get hired because they got lucky, even if it means that sometimes the top one gets thrown out by the filter. The delta between best and second best candidates is likely to be narrow (certainly much smaller than any margin of error of your interviewing/'measurement' process), and insignificant compared to the delta between a good candidate and a shiny-looking bad apple - except if your job market is starving and almost noone good applies.

Personally, since we're in PG's House I chose to filter out the actual content and focus on the pretty sweet visualization.

As an awesome UI for navigating large datasets where context and metadata edges of the graph are more relevant and useful than the nodes
