The real-time stats on the website are fascinating. Did you set those up to satisfy your own curiosity, or to give remote callers a sense of "presence" at the playa?

A little of both. It was popular enough off of a Reddit post last year that people were hearing a lot of busy signals. I thought it might entertain some folks to see just how busy the phone has been in the last hour.

That's some crazy stuff. I knew LG and others liked to push ads on their smart TVs, but I didn't realize it was this bad...


Interesting breakdown. The author clearly put in the work to test this theory. I like that he's not trying to force the data to fit the result but instead explains why even apparent matches could just be coincidental.

Cool idea, but it feels more suited for pedestrians or cyclists moving at a slower pace. Not sure this format would work well in a car, since you can't really see the whole road ahead. At 100 km/h, you need to grasp the route and upcoming turns quickly and this view might not give you enough time to get in the right lane. Still, props to them for trying something new.

Worrying news, but honestly not surprising anymore. What's interesting is that El Niño hasn't even peaked yet, if it gets as strong as they're predicting 2027 is gonna be even hotter.

Also kinda depressing to realize that no matter how much one person does, it won't make a dent globally. And what really stings is that even when decisions get made they're either too late or half-assed. Guess all we can do is hope we don't live to see things get really bad...


My understanding is that 2027 is when all the energy stored in the ocean will ultimately be released in the form of massive storms. IDK if it'll be hotter or not, but it's predicted to be pretty insane, particularly throughout the southern US.


Honestly, this is the most practical take on prompt engineering I've come across lately. Makes me wonder why spend all that time crafting a 500-word essay to tell Claude to stop being Claude, when the real move is just to chain a couple models together and call it a day


The more I think about it the more autonomous cars look like extremely demanding edge computers. You have limited power and cooling, unreliable connectivity and very strict latency requirements. It's probably one of the few places where designing the hardware around the workload makes more sense than trying to make a general purpose platform do everything


A self-driving car is an "AI robotics" platform.

Both self-driving car and general purpose AI robots are emerging technologies right now. My bet is that eventually, the HW will converge accordingly.


Honestly I wouldn't demonize AI in education. When we were students we were forbidden from using calculators, then the internet and now it's become the norm. It's the same with AI, I think. AI has already become a part of our lives. The important thing is just teaching children how to use it correctly.


Unlike AI, calculator use has been studied and shown to be useful for math education. Our understanding of these things evolved over time, however the results of this study are concerning.
