How is Ramanujan’s religion in conflict with considering him simply smart or gifted? Are you saying his abilities are divinely inspired? Are you saying he can’t be religious and smart? I’m really confused by your comment.

I took that to be that he is off the charts and not likely to be instructive to look at.

Not that folks shouldn't try. Just don't have expectations that someone that capable will have obviously applicable methods for everyone else.

Saying that, I can hope to be wrong. :)
