Unfortunately, this site takes the approach of "look how you can build wiz-bang with only N lines of code" rather than explaining the underlying functionality. This is exactly the wrong approach to impress developers.
It may be that Lift uses versatile and air-tight abstractions to accomplish these things, but we can't really figure that out from what's on this site. I recommend that the authors focus more on the principles on which Lift is built.
