“Software” shouldn’t be anything. Software is so broad a generalisation as to be utterly meaningless.
Should some software be easy to change? Of course. There is immense proven value in that approach especially in the “unix tools” philosophy.
But you cannot reason about embedded medical device drivers the same way as you can about a desktop CAD application or a video game or a massive SAAS platform.
